Sodium bicarbonate is used in a myriad of diverse
applications ranging from fire extinguishers and detergents to
soda blasting. In fire extinguishers, when sodium bicarbonate
is spread over a flame, it releases carbon dioxide which becomes
a blanket preventing oxygen from feeding the fire. In detergents,
as with swimming pools, sodium bicarbonate acts as a buffer maintaining
a proper pH for optimal water balance and cleaning effectiveness.
In soda blasting, sodium bicarbonate provides for environmentally
friendly and effective paint and graffiti removal and very easy
cleanup compared to alternative products.
